1 Is the Nolan helmet with N-Com activated safe?
Nolan N-Com helmets have been type-approved according to standard ECE 22-05 currently in force in Europe) with the N-Com system installed. Consequently, Nolan helmets comply with legislative requirements, even when they are equipped with one of the N-Com communication systems.
2 What is the highest possible volume to listen to music with the N-Com system?
The volume of the system not only depends on the N-Com system, but also on the devices it is connected to (Mp3 players, mobile phones, radios, etc...).
Important: Adjust the volume of the N-Com system (where possible) and of the audio sources connected to it before using the system on the road.
Important: Adjust the volume of the N-Com system (where possible) and of the audio sources connected to it before using the system on the road. Prolonged exposure to high volume sounds might result in hearing damage.
Important information to avoid hearing damage Permanent hearing loss might result from using the N-Com system at a high volume. Set the volume at a safe level. With time, listening to high volume sounds might feel normal, however it does lead to hearing damage. If you hear buzzing or muffled sounds, stop the playback and have your hearing checked. If you keep the volume low, you can increase your listening time without damaging your hearing.
3 What is the top speed at which the N-Com system guarantees "acceptable" communication without any background noise?
There are many factors that affect communication (aerodynamic exposure of the motorcycle, helmet used, environmental noise, etc…), so it is impossible to define a limit beyond which communication becomes unacceptable.
4 Who can install the N-Com system?
Basic kit2 was devised for easy installation inside the helmet by the user. No special equipment or modifications are required for the helmet, since the helmet itself is designed to house the N-Com communication system.
5 Can I install the N-Com system on any helmet?
No. The Nolan Group devised the N-Com system specially for Nolan helmets with N-Com attachments. These helmets are recognisable by the N-Com symbol on the left side of the helmet. For a list of helmets with N-Com attachments, please visit the website.
6 Which Multimedia Wire should I use to listen to my Mp3 player?
Use of the right cable depends on the N-Com system used. To see all the possible configurations, visit the "Compatibility" section.
7 What do I have to buy in order to be able to speak?
N-Com consists of a modular product range that allows several configurations, with different characteristics and functions. Visit the "Configurator" section and find out which Kit to buy.

|
1 What is the difference between Basic Kit and Basic Kit2?
The Basic Kit system always works in Mono mode, while the Basic Kit2 is designed for playback in Stereo mode.
2 Can I listen to my Mp3 player in stereo mode with just the Basic Kit2?
Basic Kit2 works in stereo mode only when connected to a Bluetooth Kit2 or when used alone with a Multimedia Wire2 cable.

|
1 What do I have to buy for cable communication with my mobile phone?
The basic configuration includes: a Nolan helmet equipped with N-Com, a Basic Kit specific for the helmet, a Mobile Wire specific for your mobile phone.
2 How do I know when my phone is ringing?
Mobile phones usually send the ring tone inside the helmet. Some phones fail to do this, because it is thought that the tone can be heard through the earpiece. In these cases, if the tone is not heard while riding, we suggest that you activate Vibracall and keep the phone close to your body.
3 How do I answer the phone while I am riding?
You can answer the phone in one of the following ways:
- By setting automatic answer on your phone (refer to the user’s manual of your mobile phone). This way, your phone will answer automatically and you can speak directly from your helmet.
- By stopping the vehicle in a suitable place, in compliance with the Highway Code, then answering the call by pressing the answer button on your phone. Continue the conversation directly from your helmet.
4 How do I adjust the volume of my phone call?
The Basic Kit is not equipped with an amplification system for the phone signal. Consequently, you can only adjust the volume level through the settings on the phone itself.
5 Do I have to buy a new system if I change mobile phone?
In case your new mobile phone has a different connection, you only have to buy the connection cable (Mobile Wire) specific for your new phone. Visit the "Compatibility" section for details.
6 I hear interferences while I am talking on the phone. Is this normal?
The system sometimes picks up interferences generated by the GSM network or by the mobile phone. These can be more intense in areas with poor GSM (or UMTS) signal, or in case you are switching from one repeater to another. Keep your mobile phone away from your helmet in order to limit these interferences.
7 The earphone icon is not displayed whilst the phone is connected to the helmet via cable. Why?
Unfortunately, some phones perform badly due to their software. In this case, first connect the Mobile Wire to the mobile phone and then to the helmet, then make sure the earphone icon is displayed.

The system has been tested with some satellite navigators. It is recommended to refer to the compatibility table on the Internet site. Nolan cannot guarantee proper operation with GPS systems that have yet to be tested.
2 Can I listen to high quality sound music in Stereo mode with the Garmin ZUMO navigator?
You will need a cable connection to listen to high quality sound music with Garmin ZUMO. With a Multimedia Wire2 cable connection, you will be able to listen to high quality sound music in Stereo mode, but not to use a phone connected via GPS system. If you use a Multimedia Wire cable, you will be able to listen to high quality sound music in Mono mode. Bluetooth connection to the Garmin ZUMO allows listening to low quality sound music (Hands-free Bluetooth profile).
3 Can I use a GPS system whilst I am connected via Bluetooth to the passenger's intercom?
The Bluetooth Kit2 system can manage both connections (GPS system and passenger's). During communication between the GPS system and the helmet, the intercom connection is interrupted and only resumed at the end of the GPS communication.
4 Can I continue to talk with the passenger via cable connection if I connect the navigator to the Bluetooth Kit2?
During connection with a satellite navigator, you will be able to talk with the passenger in intercom mode via cable connection. When receiving directions from the satellite navigator, the intercom mode will be momentarily paused and then automatically resumed. If the satellite navigator is used as an Mp3 player, the intercom mode is interrupted and the passenger will need to be reconnected.
5 Is it possible to be simultaneously connected to a GPS navigator and a mobile phone via Bluetooth?
The Bluetooth Kit2 system can only connect to one device at a time. Some GPS navigators allow Bluetooth connection to specific mobile phone models. In these cases, the Bluetooth Kit2 will allow connection to a navigator and, through the navigator, to your mobile phone. Check the compatibility of your mobile phone with the navigator.
6 What should I do when I receive a phone call while my phone is connected to the GPS system via Bluetooth?
You have to answer by pressing the answer button on the navigator. Once the call has been answered, it will be transferred to the helmet. You then have to hang up through the navigator as well. If the phone is connected to the navigator, and the latter is connected to the N-Com system, it will not be possible to answer the call from the helmet.

The problem presents itself when the Bluetooth Kit2 card used on the rider’s helmet is equipped with a firmware version prior to 2.02; in this case, after a few connection and disconnection cycles of the Bluetooth intercom, the passenger’s card may stop working; you will have to remove it from the helmet to make it work again. Turn to your local dealer to have the software in the rider’s card updated.
8 I have two helmets connected in intercom mode via Bluetooth; the rider is connected to the Navigator via Bluetooth; after receiving directions, the rider’s card is no longer able to connect with the passenger’s card. What do I have to do?
The problem presents itself when the Bluetooth Kit2 card used on the rider’s helmet is equipped with a firmware version prior to 2.1; in this case, upon receiving several messages from the navigator one right after the other, it may happen that the two cards cannot complete the disconnection and reconnection cycle, consequently the Bluetooth intercom is not automatically restored when the navigator is done giving directions. In this case, you will have to turn the passenger’s card on and off to properly restore all connections. Turn to your local dealer to have the software in the rider's card updated.
9 I updated the Zumo 660. I can't pair my Kit Bluetooth to the GPS. What can I do?
Every time you do an update of the Zumo 660, the GPS generate "false pairings" that fill all the available memory. In fact, after updating of the Zumo, in the List of paired devices, you can see "blank dots" with no paired devices. To solve the problem, you have to erase all the pairings and try again to pair the Kit Bluetooth to the Zumo.

1 Do all Bluetooth phones work with the N-Com Bluetooth kit?
Yes, all Bluetooth phones are compatible with N-Com. However, functions and characteristics may vary according to the type of software installed on the phone.
2 What do I have to do right after I buy the system? Are there any specific preliminary procedures?
After installing the Bluetooth kit (see instructions booklet) the only specific procedure required is to pair up the Bluetooth e-box with your phone and, if the passenger helmet is equipped with the N-Com Bluetooth Kit, the two N-Com systems must also be paired up (see the instructions booklet).
3 Do I have to pair up every time I use the N-Com system?
No. All pair-ups are stored in the memory, even when the helmets are switched off, and are maintained when the helmets are switched on again. The pair-up procedure needs to be repeated only when pairing up other systems (phone, e-box, N-Com, GPS, etc.).
4 Can I communicate via Bluetooth between two motorcycles?
The range offered by the Bluetooth kit is around 10 metres. When the distance between two helmets increases, connection fails. Only when the two helmets return within the range (10 metres) you need to press the " " button for two seconds to reconnect the intercom.
5 What is the Bluetooth range ? If it loses the signal , what has to be done to reconnect the 2 units?
The range offered by the Bluetooth kit is around 10 metres. If connection fails (a failed BT connection is accompanied by a beep in the earphones), press and hold the " " key on the rider’s e-box for about 2 seconds (sound signal). This activates a search N.B.: Only the rider's e-box can connect to the passenger.
6 Can the volume be adjusted?
When the system is on, press and release the " " or " " keys to adjust the volume. There are 7 volume levels. Each time " " or " " are pressed (a confirmation beep is heard in the earphones), the volume goes up or down a level, until a high (maximum) or low-pitched (minimum) beep is sounded.
7 Can I use my Bluetooth Kit with a Basic Kit2?
This configuration is possible but you will need to use the adaptor for the Bluetooth Kit to make it work with the Basic Kit2. Without the adaptor, the sound will be emitted by one loudspeaker only.

1 How does the rider answer a call?
The rider can answer a call in one of two ways:
- Automatic answer: Set this function on your phone (if available) and the call goes straight through the helmet without you having to press any key.
- Manual answer: If the phone paired up with the helmet receives a call, a special tone is sounded instead of the ring tone (this tone depends on the phone).
To answer the call, stop the vehicle in a suitable place, in compliance with the Highway Code, and then briefly press "on".
2 How does the rider make a call?
To make a call, the rider has to:
- Stop the vehicle in a suitable place, in compliance with the Highway Code
- Disconnect the passenger by pressing “on” for about 2 seconds
- Make the call according to the instructions for your mobile phone (or press the “on” key briefly to activate voice controls).
- At the end of the call, you can reconnect the passenger by pressing and holding the "
" key for 2 seconds (beep in earphones).
3 Can I connect my helmet, via Bluetooth, to both the passenger and a mobile phone at the same time?
This configuration is only possible if the passenger’s helmet is also equipped with the Bluetooth e-box. Moreover, if the phone allows intercom and a phone connection at the same time, you can connect to both devices simultaneously (phone and the passenger's Bluetooth e-box). If the phone does not allow this function, you have to choose which connection to use while riding (phone or the passenger’s Bluetooth e-box). You can still switch from one connection to the other.
4 If the rider is connected to both a mobile phone and the passenger, what happens when the phone rings? Can the passenger hear the phone call?
The connection between the rider’s helmet and the passenger's is put on hold and the rider is able to take the call. If the rider and passenger are connected via cable, the passenger will hear the rider’s voice during the call, but will not be able to hear the caller and, in turn, will not be heard. The passenger is completely disconnected in the case of Bluetooth intercom.
5 What do I do if I cannot answer from the helmet?
After stopping the vehicle in a suitable place, in compliance with the Highway Code, the rider can answer the call by pressing “on” briefly. “Briefly” means anything up to 1 second, depending on the phone used (not on the N-Com system). If the procedure does not work, make sure that the helmet and the N-Com e-box are paired up with the right profile: Hands-Free (HF) or Headset (HS). If it is not possible to know which profile your phone uses, try out the HS profile first and then try the HF profile, checking the relevant instructions carefully.
6 I cannot use the phone with the N-Com Bluetooth Kit
- After properly installing the Basic Kit, make sure that the Bluetooth e-box is working by switching on the volume and adjusting it.
- Switch the e-box off again and pair up the N-Com Bluetooth Kit with the mobile phone.
- Check that the pair-up is correct by making and receiving a phone call. Remember that if you have paired up a phone with a Hands-Free profile, you have to connect the phone to the helmet every time the N-Com system is switched on by briefly pressing the “on” key. The connection request will be displayed on the phone, or you will be connected immediately and a symbol will be shown on the phone display.
7 I own a mobile phone that uses the Hands-Free profile. Why does it disconnect from my helmet at the end of every phone call?
When using mobile phones with this profile, if the other person hangs up first, the phone disconnects from the helmet when the rider presses the “on” key.
8 I own a Nokia mobile phone with HF profile. After I paired it up with the helmet, it is not connected to the phone. What should I do?
Press “on” briefly to establish the connection.
9. I own a NOKIA 6600 (with Bluetooth technology). Is the Bluetooth connection continuous? In other words, with the Bluetooth earpiece that I currently use (SBS), connection with the phone gets cut off after a few minutes of inactivity. This means that if the phone has no ring tone or it is far away (such as in the tail bag) and I don’t hear it, I cannot communicate.
The Nokia 6600 uses the Hands-Free profile, supported by N-Com. The connection between phone and N-Com is always active. An incoming call is sent to the helmet. Voice commands can be used with this phone. However, you cannot use the Bluetooth intercom and connection to the phone at the same time, so you have to choose whether you want to connect to the phone or to the passenger via Bluetooth. If the user requires both connections, we recommend configuration with one Bluetooth e-box only (which connects to the phone) and a connection to the passenger by cable.
10 I own a Sony Ericsson K700. Can I use the intercom Bluetooth and the phone Bluetooth at the same time?
The phone has a peculiar functioning due to the software installed by the manufacturer and not to the N-Com System. After pairing up the helmet with the right profile – Headset (HS), the earpiece symbol will not appear on the display. When the rider receives a call, the phone begins connection with N-Com system automatically. At the end of the call, the phone needs about 10 seconds to close the Bluetooth connection; after this time, the N-Com system reconnects to the passenger automatically. When the rider makes a call, the rider has to first connect his phone by pressing “on” briefly. At the end of the call, the connection between mobile phone and N-Com system stays active and you cannot switch automatically to the intercom. Only by switching off and then switching on the Bluetooth e-box can the rider end the Bluetooth connection and activate the intercom.
11 I own a Nokia N70 and I cannot disconnect/connect the N-Com system to the mobile phone. What can I do?
The Nokia N70 uses the HF profile. Pair it up again with the right profile and switch off the phone and the helmet at the end of the operation to memorize the pairing up. After pairing up, press briefly “on” to connect the N-Com system to the mobile phone. The earpiece symbol will appear on the mobile phone. To disconnect the helmet from the mobile phone press both " " and " " buttons at the same time and keep them pressed for about 2 seconds.
12 I own an N70 phone and sometimes it does not let me make a voice call. When I press the "on" key, I get a low tone. What can I do?
Unfortunately, some phones perform badly due to their software. Although the phone does not allow voice calls, it stays connected to the N-Com system so you can still receive phone calls. Normally, receiving a phone call solves the problem. Should this fail to work, switch the phone off and switch it on again.
13 The Nokia N70 sometimes disconnects from the helmet when I make a voice call.
This anomaly, found in some software versions of the N70 model, is linked to improper management of voice calls. If the phone continues to cause problems, you will have to make calls directly from the phone. Do not make calls while you are riding.
14 Can I listen to the radio from a Nokia N70 phone connected to the N-Com system via Bluetooth?
No, you cannot listen to the radio directly from a Nokia N70 that does not broadcast radio sound via Bluetooth.
15 I own a Nokia 6630 and at the end of the call, passed through to the helmet, my mobile phone loses the Bluetooth connection with the N-Com system. What can I do?
This anomaly is due to the software version installed in the mobile phone. You can solve this problem by updating the phone software to version v6.03.08. If you cannot update the software installed in the phone, you have to make sure that the phone did not lose connection with the helmet; to establish the connection briefly press the "on" button of the N-Com system. If the connection fails, switch off the mobile phone and switch it back on.

1 If the rider is connected to both the Mp3 player and the passenger, can the passenger hear the music too? Is it possible to talk with music in the background?
Both rider and passenger hear the music. If the passenger is disconnected, he/she will be cut off and will not be able to listen to the music. While music is playing, the intercom is on and you can talk with music in the background. To mute the microphones, reducing hissing from the microphones, it is possible to activate the Mute function (press the " " for 2 seconds). To deactivate the mute function, press the " " key for 2 seconds.
2 Can I listen to the Mp3 tracks in the Nokia N70 connected via Bluetooth to the N-Com system?
Yes. After pairing up the N-Com system to the mobile phone (see the HF pairing up procedure) and connecting the mobile phone to the N-Com system (press briefly the “on” button), the music is transferred to the N-Com system directly. If the rider receives or makes a call, the Mp3 stops and needs to be manually reactivated.

|
1 Can I use the TomTom navigator installed on a Nokia N70 connected to N-Com system via Bluetooth?
Yes. After pairing up the N-Com system to the mobile phone (see the HF pairing up procedure) and connecting the mobile phone to the N-Com system (press briefly the "on" button), the navigator information is transferred to the helmet. The navigator can receive the GPS signal by means of an external antenna connected to the phone via Bluetooth.
